Numbers on a spec sheet are reassuring, but there is no substitute for seeing a factory in person — or as close to in person as words and data can bring you. VELA's Cambodia facility is our largest single production site: a 6,200 square meter, purpose-built handbag manufacturing campus located in the greater Phnom Penh industrial corridor. If you are evaluating VELA as a manufacturing partner, this is the facility where the majority of your volume will be produced. Here is what you would see if you walked through the door today.
The Entrance and Administration Block. The facility opens into an administration wing housing our on-site management team, a dedicated client meeting room, and a material sample library containing over 800 swatches of approved leathers, linings, hardware finishes, and trims. We designed this space deliberately: when a client visits for a factory audit, they can move seamlessly from reviewing documentation to walking the floor to approving next-season materials without ever leaving the building.
Cutting and Pre-Production (Approx. 800 sqm). The cutting room is where raw materials become production-ready panels. VELA's Cambodia facility uses the same ultrasonic cutting tables and Italian skiving machines as our Dongguan headquarters — there is no quality split between our two sites. Pattern pieces are cut to tolerance, edges are prepared, and hardware components are staged in labeled bins assigned to each work order. A production scheduler board on the wall shows real-time status for every active job on the floor.
Main Assembly Hall (Approx. 3,200 sqm). The heart of the facility is a broad, well-lit assembly hall arranged in U-shaped production cells. Each cell handles a specific product category — structured leather handbags, PU crossbody bags, or canvas totes — with tooling and thread colors pre-set for the current run. Natural light supplements overhead LED panels to reduce eye strain and improve color accuracy during edge-paint and lining-color inspections. Ventilation systems maintain air quality standards consistent with international labor compliance requirements.
Hardware and Finishing Station (Approx. 600 sqm). Adjacent to the main hall, our hardware and edge-finishing station is where bags acquire their final structural and aesthetic details. Rivet presses, turn-locks setting jigs, and edge-paint applicators line this room. A small team of senior operators — our most experienced workers, with an average of six years at VELA — handles the finishing work that requires a practiced eye. This team also performs the first-pass visual inspection before bags move to the dedicated QC audit room.
Quality Control and Packing (Approx. 600 sqm). The final zone is our QC and export packing room. This is a clean, organized space where finished bags are inspected under standardized lighting, individually wrapped in acid-free tissue, inserted into dust bags, and packed into export cartons with packing lists and compliance documentation. Our Cambodia facility is audited annually by third-party social compliance auditors and holds certifications relevant to major retail and brand clients. Prospective buyers are welcome to schedule an on-site audit visit — we maintain an open-door policy because we have nothing to hide and everything to show.
